Don't over or under expose the screen and keep it as evenly lit as possible (eveness is more important than brighness).ĭon't put filters on the camera other than ND. If you are doing it with a domestic video format use a greenscreen rather than blue but bear in mind green produces more spill for the same amount of light you put on the screen as blue. Just tweak your tolerances and lighting to get the best results but don't expect photorealistic comps. You can cook up an ultimatte type keyer in any decent image manipulation package using the algorythmns on their website but replicating the tweaking tools is a little more difficult.ĭoing it live shouldn't be a problem. #Programs to chroma key live video footage proMost pro live bluescreen applications use a hardware Ultimatte type rig (Ultimatte make the best colour difference keying algorythms.they practically invented the process and I have to say they are still the best). I far prefer to do it in post where practical as you can include and exclude areas, garbage matte, and very accutely control the chroma and luma of the subject you wish to to key out, the tolerance can be varied to a greater degree as well. If you wanted to record the live rig up you would also need a video deck or second camera with analogue in. You would need even set (flooded) lights on your blue/green screen a fill (soft flooded) 2 backlights (usually spotted across subjects head and shoulders, but out of camera shot) and 1 key (spotted) down opposite side of face from fill, all on your subject and they would not be able to wear blue or green (depending on the screen you've used) and sometimes even black causes problems). You would need a blue or green screen behind your subject and fairly specialist lighting (doing it live you have far less error margin/latitude). #Programs to chroma key live video footage movieRun the output from your camera into a Mac, then click on your background and it will disappear, revealing the movie or still image of your choice. The only way i've ever done it live was to use a panasonic MX50 video mixer (or similar) with a chroma key function on it. How do you shoot a complex green-screen scene when all you see is an actor against a big green wall? Chroma Key Live makes it simple again. (Assuming you could afford the expensive studio or at least a video mixer.) Now chroma key effects are included in every editor, but they can’t be easily visualized during production. This way, the production team could see exactly how the actor looked when composited over the background image. The camera’s live signal would be routed through a keyer in the control room and delivered back to an on-set monitor. In the days of analog video, chromakey was accomplished in the TV studio in realtime. The keyed output is published as a Syphon stream for other applications to use. Movie playback can be controlled from the keyboard for easy cueing and rehearsal. (See the Camera Compatibility page for complete info.) The foreground and background layers can be independently scaled, positioned, and mirrored (so your actors don’t see themselves backwards). The foreground / background sources include FaceTime cameras, USB webcams, HDMI capture cards, Syphon streams, and pre-recorded movies or stills. CamTwist Studio has a chromakey feature, but it’s buried pretty deep.)Ĭhroma Key Live performs a basic realtime chromakey (AKA “greenscreen”) on your computer screen, in HD resolutions, with adjustable tolerance and edge fade. (There are other free solutions: OBS Studio has a chromakey filter built-in. #Programs to chroma key live video footage softwareWe didn’t need the advanced features of professional software like Veescope, Wirecast, MimoLive or VirtualEyez so I made my own solution. #Programs to chroma key live video footage fullIt features Syphon I/O, HD resolutions and full GPU acceleration.Ī few years ago, some of my students were doing a green-screen shoot and needed to visualize the chromakey while shooting, so their actors could see the composite while they performed. Chroma Key Live “keys out” selected areas of live video, allowing a background to show through. ![]()
